Introduction
You can use the advanced attribute functionalities to manage inheritable attribute values (Inherit value), track attribute value changes (Attribute value log), and plan future attribute values (Attribute planned values), with full visibility across the asset hierarchy.
You can define the attributes which need to inherit values in the Attribute types page. You can navigate to this page by going to Asset management > Setup > Attribute types.
You can view the attributes of an asset by going to Asset management > Assets > All assets, and from the list of assets, select one. On the Asset details page, scroll down to the Attributes FastTab.
The Inherit value functionality allows you to automatically pass down attribute value changes from a parent asset to its child elements in the equipment hierarchy.
To enable the Inherit value functionality:
- Go to System administration > Workspaces > Feature management.
- On the Feature management page, go to the All tab and look for the feature Dynaway - Advanced attributes.
- Select the feature and enable it by clicking on the Enable now button at the bottom right of the page (see screenshot 01).
- Once enabled, the Inherit value option becomes available on the Attribute types page (see screenshot 02) and in the attribute types data entity, where you can define which attribute types should inherit values through the hierarchy.
- When an attribute type is marked with Inherit value, you can expect the following behavior:
- When you update an attribute value on an asset, the same value is updated on all its sub-assets.
- Before applying the changes, the system shows a confirmation dialog if the child assets have the same attribute type.
- Only existing attribute records on child elements are updated. The system does not create new attribute records.

The Attribute value log allows you to track all changes made to an attribute value on an asset. Note that creating a new attribute does not create a log entry. Only changes to an existing attribute value are recorded in the log.
To view the Attribute value log for a specific asset:
- Go to Asset management > Assets > All assets, and from the list of assets, select an asset.
- On the Asset details page, scroll down to the Attributes FastTab.
- On the Attributes FastTab, click Value logs to view the change log for all attribute values of the selected asset (see screenshot 01).
- You are directed to the Attribute value log page (see screenshot 02) of the selected asset. This log shows the following information:
- Changes made to the attribute value over time.
- Whether the change was made directly on the asset or inherited from a parent asset.

You can define future (planned) values for attributes assigned to an asset.
To create and view planned attribute values:
- Go to Asset management > Assets > All assets, and from the list of assets, select an asset.
- On the Asset details page, scroll down to the Attributes FastTab.
- On the Attributes FastTab, click Planned values (see screenshot 01).
- You will be directed to the Attribute planned values page, where you can:
- Select the attribute type.
- Specify the planned date and time when the new value should become effective.
- Enter the planned attribute value.
- On this page, you can also see from where a planned value is inherited by using the columns:
- Inherited from functional location
- Inherited from asset
- The Attribute planned values page shows:
- Planned values created directly on the selected asset.
- Planned values inherited from parent assets, where:
- The attribute type has Inherit value enabled.
- The same attribute type exists on the current asset.
- To apply a planned value as the current attribute value:
- Select a planned value that is defined directly on the asset.
- Click Apply planned value.
- Note that you cannot apply planned values that are inherited from a parent asset.
- To apply such values, you must navigate to the parent shown in the Inherited from functional location or Inherited from asset column and apply the planned value there.
- When you apply a planned value on an asset that has child assets with the same attribute type:
- A confirmation dialog shows the number of assets that will be affected.
- If you select No, no changes are applied.
- If you select Yes:
- The planned value is removed from the planned values list.
- The current attribute value on the asset is updated with the value defined in the planned values list.
- The same value is applied to all affected child assets in a batch job.
- If verbose mode is enabled, you can see which assets were updated.

The Attribute value overview page allows you to view all records that are associated with a specific attribute value.
To open the Attribute value overview page:

- In the Attribute value overview dialog (see screenshot 01), select an Attribute type from the drop-down list of available attribute types.
- For the Value field, enter a relevant value if applicable (optional).
- Click OK.
- You will be directed to the Attribute value overview page (see screenshot 02), where you can see all records for the selected attribute type and value.
- If you do not enter a Value in the Attribute value overview dialog, the grid displays all records for the selected Attribute type, regardless of the attribute value.
- If you enter a Value in the Attribute value overview dialog, the grid displays all records that have the selected attribute value, including functional locations, assets, work orders and requests.

The Attribute value log overview page allows you to view all attribute value change log records across assets and functional locations.
To open the Attribute value log overview page:
- Go to Asset management > Inquiries > Attributes > Attribute value log overview.
- You will be directed to the Attribute value log overview page (see screenshot 01), which displays an overview of all attribute value log records for assets and functional locations. It helps you quickly review what attribute value changes have occurred.
- To refresh and view the latest data, click Refresh logs (see screenshot 01).
- This will recalculate and display the most recent attribute value log records in the grid.
