Introduction
You can set up a vendor warranty on an asset. By default, the warranty is time based and controlled by the Warranty start and Warranty end fields.
Now you can also configure a warranty based on counter values. When a counter-based warranty is configured, the system evaluates asset counter value to determine whether the warranty is still active.
If an asset may still be under warranty, the system displays a warning when you create a work order.
On the asset record, the warranty section still shows the Warranty start and Warranty end fields. No additional fields are displayed on the asset when a counter-based warranty is configured.
To set up a counter-based warranty:
- Go to Asset management > Setup > Assets > Warranty (see screenshot 01).
- Select New to create a warranty, or open an existing warranty.
- You can configure a warranty based on time, counter values, or both.
- To set up counter warranty, from the Details FastTab (see screenshot 02), go to the Counter warranty section and specify the following fields:
- Counter type
- Counter value
- In the Warranty lines FastTab, define the line details. Note that there is no need to create warranty lines when using a counter-based warranty.
- When both are configured, the warranty remains active until both the configured warranty period and the configured counter value are exceeded.
- After entering the details, select Save.
- The warranty details will be set for the counter-based warranty. Note that in the case of a counter-based warranty, the system assumes that the counter value on the asset starts at zero.
