The Execution mode setup controls which execution modes are suggested when an asset is selected in maintenance processes.
To define an execution mode:
- Go to Asset management > Setup > Asset types > Execution modes (see screenshot 01).
- On the Execution modes page (see screenshot 02), click New to add a new execution mode.
- In the Execution mode field, enter an identifier for the mode.
- In the Description field, enter a relevant description for the execution mode.
- Save the details.
- After defining the execution mode, to link the execution mode to asset types, go to Asset management > Setup > Asset types > Asset types (see screenshot 03).
- On the Asset types page, select the asset type for which you would like to set the execution mode.
- On the selected Asset type page, scroll to the Execution modes FastTab, add the relevant execution modes, and save the details.
- The selected asset type is now linked to the defined execution mode.
The Execution mode field is available in the Create maintenance request dialog (see screenshot 04) when creating a request from:
- Maintenance requests
- Assets
- Functional locations
- Work orders (Work order maintenance jobs tab)
- Work order maintenance jobs
- Maintenance checklist review (requires license Dynaway Advanced Maintenance Checklists)
- Tools (Tool crib)
- Maintenance request management workspace
- Logbook entries (requires license Dynaway Logbook)

Execution Mode When Creating/Updating a Maintenance Request
When creating or updating a maintenance request, select an Execution mode in the corresponding form.
Scenario 1: When Execution mode is linked to an Asset type
In the forms, when you select an asset:
- The system looks at the asset’s Asset type.
- It checks if any Execution modes are linked to that asset type in the setup.
- It filters and displays only those Execution modes that are linked to the asset type.
Scenario 2: When Execution mode is not linked to an Asset type
In the forms, when you select an asset:
- The system looks at the asset’s Asset type.
- It checks if any Execution modes are linked to that Asset type in the setup. If no Execution modes are linked to that asset type:
- All Execution modes are shown.
- You can select any execution mode.
- But if it is not linked to the asset type, you will get a warning message (the system does not stop you from adding the Execution mode, it just displays a warning).
Viewing Execution Mode on Maintenance Requests
You can check execution mode set up on a maintenance request:
- In the Maintenance request list page
- On the Maintenance request details page (under the Asset FastTab)
Editing behavior of Execution Mode
The behavior of the Execution mode field is similar to the standard Maintenance job type field.
- If the Maintenance request has an Asset assigned and does not have a Work order assigned, you can edit the Execution mode.
- If the Maintenance request does not have an Asset assigned, you cannot edit the Execution mode.
- If the Maintenance request has a Work order assigned, you cannot edit the Execution mode.
If a Maintenance request has a related Maintenance schedule line, then the Execution mode is automatically copied to that schedule line.
If you change Execution mode on the Maintenance request, the related Maintenance schedule line is updated automatically.
Scenario 3: When a Maintenance request has a related Maintenance schedule line
If a Maintenance request has a related Maintenance schedule line:
- The selected Execution mode is automatically copied to the related maintenance schedule line.
- If you change the Execution mode on the maintenance request, the related maintenance schedule line is updated automatically.
Scenario 4: Creating or Adding Work Orders from Maintenance Requests
When you create a Work order from a Maintenance request, or add a Maintenance request to an existing Work order and the Maintenance request has Execution mode assigned:
- The Execution mode is copied automatically to the Create work order or Add to work order dialog.
- After selecting the required Execution mode in the dialog and clicking OK:
- The Execution mode on the related maintenance request is updated.
- The Execution mode on the related maintenance schedule line is updated.
- Note that if you later change Execution mode on an existing Work order line that has a related Maintenance request, the Execution mode on the Maintenance request and related Maintenance schedule line is not updated automatically.
Scenario 5: Maintenance checklist actions (special behavior)
Execution mode is also applied to Maintenance requests created automatically by Maintenance checklist actions (Execution mode field is configured in Maintenance checklist actions setup).
Scenario 6: Transfer assets (special behavior)
Execution mode is also applied to Maintenance requests created automatically in Transfer assets (Execution mode mapping is configured in Asset management parameters).
