Introduction
AAM's Maintenance schedule supports enhanced functionality for managing maintenance schedule lines:
- Entering a reason for discarding maintenance schedule lines.
- Configuring discard remarks to be mandatory.
- Setting up a batch job to automatically discard maintenance schedule lines.
To require users to enter a discard remark when discarding maintenance schedule lines:
- Go to Asset management > Setup > Asset management parameters.
- On the Assets tab, expand the Preventive maintenance FastTab.
- Enable Maintenance schedule line discard remark mandatory.
- Click Save.
When this option is enabled, users must enter a discard remark when:
- Manually discarding maintenance schedule lines.
- Using the Discard maintenance schedule lines batch job
Using the Discard remark functionality, you can add comments or detailed reasons for discarding a maintenance schedule line. You can configure the Discard remark field to be mandatory when discarding a maintenance schedule line.
- To add comments for discarding a schedule line, there are multiple options through which you can navigate to the maintenance schedule. You may navigate to using one of the following options:
- Asset management > Maintenance schedule > Open maintenance schedule lines.
- Asset management > Maintenance schedule > All maintenance schedule.
- Asset management > Maintenance schedule > My asset schedule.
- Asset management > Maintenance schedule > Open maintenance schedule pools.
- From My asset schedule page, select the line and from the Maintain option at the top of the page, click on Discard.
- When clicking Discard, the page will display the Discard asset schedule dialog (screenshot 01).
- In the Discard remark field, enter the reason for discarding the maintenance schedule line. If the Discard remark field is configured as mandatory, you must enter a remark before discarding the maintenance schedule line.
- Click OK to confirm the task.
- The remark added here will be displayed in the All maintenance schedule page in the Discarded remark column corresponding to the maintenance line which was deleted (screenshot 02).
- The Discarded by column corresponding to the maintenance schedule line will display the name of the user that discarded the line (screenshot 02).

You can set up a recurring batch job to automatically discard overdue maintenance schedule lines. This job can also create a work order for the first line and discard the others.
If there are multiple maintenance schedule lines in recurrence containing the same maintenance job type, maintenance job variant, trade and asset as on the maintenance schedule line, in such cases it is possible to create a single batch process and discard the rest of the repeated lines. For example, maintenance schedule lines which are long overdue can be set to be automatically discarded by setting up a batch job.
The batch job includes a Discard remark parameter, which allows you to provide a reason for discarding maintenance schedule lines. If the Discard remark field is configured as mandatory, you must enter a remark. Otherwise, if you leave the field blank, the system applies the default remark Maintenance schedule discarded as redundant to the discarded maintenance schedule lines.
- To discard maintenance schedule lines using a batch process, go to Asset management > Periodic > Preventive maintenance > Discard maintenance schedule lines.
- From the Discard maintenance schedule lines dialog, select the records to include by enabling the relevant filters.
- To discard lines using a batch job, enable the option Batch processing (screenshot 01).
- If required, enable Create single work order per combination. When this option is enabled, the batch job creates a work order for the first maintenance schedule line and discards the remaining lines that have the same maintenance job type, maintenance job variant, trade, and asset.
- In the Discard remark field, enter the reason for discarding the maintenance schedule lines. If configured as mandatory, this field is required.
- Click OK to confirm the task.
Note:
- Batch job for discarding schedules will only discard maintenance schedule lines with status 'Created' in combination with those which meet the criteria specified by the user in the filter.
- When a batch job has been run to discard the maintenance lines, the Discard remark column will display the user-entered remark or the default message Maintenance schedule discarded as redundant corresponding to each discarded line.
- When a batch job has been run to discard the maintenance schedule lines, the Discard remark column displays the user-entered remark. If the Discard remark field is not configured as mandatory and no remark is entered, the default message Maintenance schedule discarded as redundant is displayed.
- If Create single work order per combination is enabled, the batch job discards a maintenance schedule line only if there is an open work order for the same maintenance job type, maintenance job variant, trade, and asset. If no open work order exists, the batch job creates one and discards the remaining matching lines.

It is possible to discard the maintenance schedule lines of an open work order for the same maintenance job type, maintenance job variant, trade and asset as on the maintenance schedule line and create a single work order for the task. If there is no open work order, it will create one.
For example, let's assume that a batch job processes four lines of the same maintenance job type, maintenance job variant, and trade. The job will create a work order for first line, while discarding the other three.
- To create a single work order for repetitive tasks and discard maintenance schedule lines, go to Asset management > Periodic > Preventive maintenance > Discard maintenance schedule lines.
- From the Discard maintenance schedule lines dialog select the records to include by enabling the relevant filters.
- Enable the option Create single work order per combination (screenshot 01).
- Enable the option Batch processing.
- Click OK to confirm the task.
