Related Work Order

Improvements when working with related work orders

Introduction

You can use the Related work orders functionality to create linked maintenance activities from an existing work order.

With this, you can:

  • View related work orders.
  • Create related work orders.
  • Configure inherited values.
  • Restrict allowed related work order types.
  • Define parent project behavior.

Using the All related work orders menu item you can easily review all work orders associated with a specific work order.

To view all associated work orders:

  1. Go to Asset management > Work orders > All work orders.
  2. On the Work order screen, select the work order for which the related orders need to be viewed and go to Advanced > All related work orders (Screenshot 01).
  3. You can view all related work orders for the selected work order.

Inherit Values

Inherited values are used to configure which values from the parent work order are applied to the related work order during creation (see screenshot 01). Note that ony users with the Maintenance manager role can modify this setup. Maintenance clerk users have read-only access.

To configure values to inherit:

  1. Go to Asset management > Setup > Work orders > Inherit values.
  2. Create a new inherit value setup or open an existing setup.
  3. Enable Active.
  4. Select the fields that must inherit values from the parent work order.
    • You can enable the following values to inherit:
      • Service level
      • Description
      • Responsible group
      • Responsile
      • Planner group
      • Planner
      • Maintenance job type
      • Maintenance job type variant
      • Trade
      • Execution mode
      • Longitude
      • Latitude
  5. Save the setup.

Note:

  • You can also use the data entity Asset management work order inherit values to export and import inherit value setups.

Inherit values when creating a related work order

To inherit values when creating a related work order:

  1. Go to Asset management > Work orders > All work orders and open a work order.
  2. From the top menu, go to New > Related work order.
  3. On the Create new related work order dialog, under the New work order section, select a value in Inherit field set (see screenshot 02).
  4. In order to inherit values, you need to set a value in the Inherit field set input field under New work order group seen in screenshot 02. After an inherit field set is selected, a warning message is displayed because values entered in the following fields may be overwritten depending on the inherit setup.
  5. Complete the remaining fields, and click OK.
  6. On click of OK, the system validates:
    • The selected inherit value setup is Active.
      • If the selected setup is no longer Active, a warning message with a hyperlink is displayed.
    • The new work order has a parent work order assigned.

Note:

  • Values from the parent work order and work order line take precedence over values entered manually in the form.
  • When using Linked maintenance job types, default maintenance jobs are added based on the setup definition and do not inherit values. The parent maintenance job type is still created in the related work order with inherited values applied.

Configure inherit values for checklist actions

You can use inherit values together with checklist actions functionality.

To configure inherit values for checklist actions:

  1. Go to Asset management > Setup > Maintenance checklist actions.
  2. Open a checklist action setup.
  3. Select a value in Inherit field set (see screenshot 03).
    • To display the Inherit field set field, at least one inherit value setup must be Active. The lookup only displays active setups.
  4. Save the changes.
  5. In the Work order inherit values page, the Checklist actions column displays the number of checklist actions assigned to an inherit value setup (see screenshot 04).

Note:

  • The field WorkOrderInheritValue_Set is available in the data entity Asset management maintenance checklist action. This allows you to export and import inherit field set values for checklist actions.

Project Setup

It's possible to specify a setup for parent projects to be used when a related work order is created. On a work order type you can use the option 'Related work order parent project' seen in screenshot 01 below.

The following options are available:

  • Work order project setup: Existing setup, including work order pools, is in effect.
  • Original work order line parent project: The parent project for the related work order line will be the parent project for the original work order line.
  • Original work order line project: The parent project for the related work order line will be the original work order line project.
