Work Order Pool

Improvements to work orders pool

Introduction

You can use work order pools to group work orders that share common characteristics. These pools can be based on factors like teams, skills, locations, or time periods. A single work order can be assigned to multiple pools as needed.

Work order pools are a standard functionality of Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management. You can read the complete documentation about this at Work order pools - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn.

In this document, we will look at enhancements to the Work order pools functionality, available in AAM.

For work order pools, the following has been added:

  • Delete lifecycle state: Delete lifecycle state option to the grid overview.
  • Three new fields: Expected start, Expected end, and Days.
  • New menu item: All work order maintenance jobs.

Delete Lifecycle State

The Delete lifecycle state is a standard field in Dynamics 365. You can now view this in the main grid of work order pool page.

This field defines which work order lifecycle state should trigger the automatic removal of a work order from a pool. For example, when a work order reaches a certain lifecycle state (like "Released", "Completed", etc.), it gets removed from the pool, based on your configuration.

Note that this option works together with the field called Delete work order relations (see screenshot 01).

Example:

  1. A work order is assigned to Work Order Pool B.
  2. In Work Order Pool B, you configure:
    • Delete work order relations = Yes
    • Delete lifecycle state = Released
  3. Now, if the work order's lifecycle state is changed to Released, the system will:
    • Automatically detect that this matches the delete condition.
    • Remove the work order from Pool B.

Expected Start and End Date, and Days

On a work order pool you can now set up an Expected start and Expected end date. When a pool is added to a work order, these values are copied to the work order’s expected start and end fields.

The Days field shows the duration of the work order pool, calculated based on the expected dates.

Note:

  • Updating expected start and end dates in the work order pool does not affect existing work orders that are already linked.

All Work Order Maintenance Jobs

You can now access all related maintenance jobs from the work orders in a work order pool. This makes it easier to review and update the jobs so they are ready to proceed.

To use this option, go to the Work order pool details page. From the top menu, select Work order pool > View work order pool related, and click on All work order maintenance jobs.
