Project Work Order

Create work orders directly from the Project management and accounting module in D365FO

Introduction

Standard Enterprise asset management integrates with the Project management and accounting module in D365FO. Project integration is used to track costs on work orders.

We have made an improvement, making it possible to create an Enterprise asset management work order directly from a project in the Project management and accounting module in D365FO. This means you can skip the additional setup for a work order parent project.

You have completed setup of Objects and Work orders in Enterprise Asset management.

Overview

When you create work orders or add work order jobs in Enterprise Asset management, new sub-projects are created. The parent project is set up in work order parent projects (Enterprise Asset management > Setup > Work orders > Project setup). Refer to Microsoft documentation to learn more about the standard setup for project integration: Project setup for forecasts and work order jobs.

If there are special cases where a different parent project should be used instead of the standard setup, you must create additional setup for a work order parent project.

Creating work orders directly from projects in the Project management and accounting module should only be used for tracking a limited number of work orders on a project. This functionality does not replace the standard setup for work order parent projects.

Setup

When a work order is created from a project, the project is used as a parent project for all work order jobs on the work order. This functionality requires a setup in Enterprise Asset management parameters.

  1. Select Enterprise Asset management > Setup > Enterprise Asset management parameters.
  2. Select the Work orders link.
  3. In the General section, select the Create work orders from projects toggle button to show "Yes".

Create Project Work Order

When project work order setup is done in Enterprise Asset management parameters, you can create a work order from a project in the Project management and accounting module.

  1. Select Project management and accounting > Projects > All projects or My projects.
  2. On the Project action pane tab > the Enterprise Asset Management group > select Create work order.
  3. Refer to Microsoft documentation regarding how to create the work order.

If you create several work order jobs on a work order created from a project, all work order jobs relate to the same parent project as the work order.
