Asset Defects

Introduction

Asset Defects functionality in Dynaway EAM enables organizations to record, categorize, prioritize, and manage defects found on assets. This supports maintenance planning, compliance, and continuous improvement.

What are Asset Defects?

Asset Defects are records of issues, faults, or non-conformities identified on assets. Each defect includes details such as asset number, defect code, description, category, priority, and registration date.

Key Features

  • Register defects for any asset
  • Categorize defects using defect categories
  • Assign priorities to defects for effective planning
  • Use standard defect definitions for consistency
  • Track defect status and resolution
  • View and manage defects from the asset card and overview pages
  • API support for integration and reporting

How to Register and Manage Asset Defects

  1. Go to the Asset Defects page in Business Central.
  2. Select New to create a defect record.
  3. Enter the asset number, defect code, description, category, and priority.
  4. Use standard defect definitions and categories for consistency.
  5. Save the defect and update its status as it is resolved.

Defect Categories and Priorities

  • Defect categories help group defects by type (e.g., mechanical, electrical, safety).
  • Each category can have a default priority, supporting efficient planning.
  • Defect priorities (e.g., High, Medium, Low) help maintenance teams focus on the most critical issues first.

Standard Defects

  • Use the Standard Defects page to define common defect types and descriptions.
  • Link standard defects to categories for streamlined registration.

Downtime and Work Order Creation from Defects

When a defect is registered on an asset, Dynaway EAM provides options to automatically or manually create downtime records and maintenance work orders:

  • Downtime Registration:
  • Defects can trigger downtime events, recording the period when the asset is unavailable due to the defect.
  • Downtime records include start/end times, reason codes, and are linked to the defect and asset for reporting.
  • Use the downtime overview to analyze asset reliability and the impact of defects on operations.

  • Work Order Creation:

  • Maintenance work orders can be created directly from a defect record to initiate corrective actions.
  • The work order inherits details from the defect (asset, description, priority, etc.) and tracks the resolution process.
  • This integration ensures defects are addressed promptly and provides a full audit trail from defect identification to resolution.

Tip: Use the asset defects overview and reporting features to monitor trends, identify recurring issues, and drive continuous improvement in asset reliability.
