Introduction
The asset tree in Dynaway EAM provides a hierarchical view of your assets, enabling efficient navigation, maintenance planning, and asset management through clear visualization of asset relationships and organizational structures.
[!IMPORTANT] Before using the asset tree, ensure that asset hierarchy and relationship structures are properly planned, location and organizational structures are configured, and user access rights are established.
The asset tree organizes your assets in a hierarchical structure that can be based on different grouping methods:
- Parent relationship: Physical parent-child asset relationships
- Category: Asset category groupings
- Location: Asset location groupings
Only active assets are displayed in the tree, and you can build up to 10 levels of hierarchy.
Assign parent assets
To establish a hierarchical structure, assign a Parent No. to asset cards. The first asset in the hierarchy acts as the main asset, while others are linked beneath it.
- Open the asset card for the child asset
- In the Parent No. field, specify the parent asset number
- Save the changes
Use virtual assets
If an asset in the hierarchy isn't a physical maintenance asset, classify it as a Virtual Asset. Virtual assets act as folders that group related assets under one structure.
Examples of virtual assets:
- A factory location containing all machines within that facility
- A vehicle fleet grouping all company cars
- A production line grouping all related equipment
This approach improves asset management by keeping related items structured and easy to track.
Users can customize their view by selecting from three grouping options. These options are applied per user, allowing for personalized displays based on specific needs or responsibilities.
Group by Parent (default)
Shows assets in their hierarchical parent-child relationships. This is the most common view for maintenance operations.
Group by Category
Organizes assets by their assigned categories, showing category hierarchies and assets within each category.
Group by Location
Groups assets by their assigned locations, showing location hierarchies and assets within each location.
To change grouping options:
- Select Tree Options from the ribbon
- Choose your preferred grouping method
- Configure display options for work orders, plans, documents, and other related items
- Select OK to apply changes
Search assets
Use the search box at the top of the tree to quickly locate specific assets. The search function looks for matches in:
- Asset number
- Description
- Number 2
- Vendor asset number
- Serial number
- Model number
Navigate the tree
- Expand/collapse nodes: Click the arrow icons or double-click nodes
- Select assets: Click on asset names to view details
- Use filters: Apply filters to show specific asset subsets
- Drag and drop: Move assets to new parent relationships (if enabled)
Right-click on any asset in the tree to access quick actions:
Asset operations
- Open: View the asset card
- Create Work Order: Create a new work order for the asset
- Register Downtime: Record downtime for the asset
- Create Asset Transfer: Initiate an asset transfer
View related information
- Show Documents: View all documents linked to the asset
- Orders: Access work order plans and work orders
- Rounds: View round order plans and round orders
- Show Defects: Display and manage asset defects
- Show Children with Defects: View child assets with open defects (when applicable)
Additional custom actions may be available depending on your system configuration.
Tree options
Each user can personalize their asset tree view through the Tree Options configuration:
Display options:
- Show work order plans
- Show work orders
- Show posted work orders
- Show round order plans
- Show round orders
- Show posted round orders
- Show asset items
- Show asset documents
- Show active downtimes
- Show asset defects
- Show number of children in nodes
Resource and item details:
- Show plan resources/items
- Show order resources/items
- Show posted order resources/items
- Show plan/order/posted order documents
- Show frequencies
Node labels and tooltips
The tree displays customizable node labels and tooltips that provide quick access to asset information without opening individual asset cards.
Asset operation areas
The asset tree integrates with asset operation areas for field operations:
- Operation area filtering: Show only assets assigned to specific operation areas
- Operator assignments: Control asset visibility based on user operator assignments
- Field access: Support mobile and field-based asset operations
- Shift management: Integration with shift-based operations
Mobile and field operations
Access asset tree functionality on mobile devices:
- Mobile tree navigation: Browse asset hierarchy on mobile applications
- Real-time updates: Synchronize asset changes between mobile and desktop
Defect visibility
The tree provides integrated defect management:
- Defect indicators: Visual indicators showing assets with open defects
- Defect counts: Display number of defects per asset
- Child defect notifications: Alerts for child assets with defects
- Priority indicators: Visual cues for defect severity levels
Defect management actions
Direct defect management from the tree:
- View defects: Access complete defect lists for assets
- Create defects: Report new defects directly from tree
- Defect resolution: Link defects to work orders for resolution
- Status tracking: Monitor defect resolution progress
Asset calendar integration
View asset operational schedules:
- Calendar assignment: Assets can be assigned to operational calendars
- Shift visibility: Display active shift hours and working days
- Availability tracking: Show total available hours per day
- Schedule optimization: Support maintenance planning around operations
Performance monitoring
Track asset performance directly from the tree:
- KPI display: Show key performance indicators
- Status summaries: Quick overview of asset operational status
- Maintenance metrics: Display maintenance-related performance data
- Trend indicators: Visual representation of performance trends
Integration with work orders
Seamless work order management:
- Work order creation: Create work orders directly from tree context
- Maintenance history: Access complete work order history
- Planned maintenance: View upcoming maintenance activities
- Resource planning: Support maintenance resource allocation
If enabled by your administrator - select the Drag-and-drop on Asset Tree option on Maintenance Employee table, you can use drag and drop to move assets within the tree:
- Select the asset you want to move
- Drag it to the new parent asset
- Confirm the move when prompted
- The system updates the parent-child relationship automatically
[!NOTE] Drag and drop is only available for moving assets to other assets (not to categories or locations) and must be enabled in your user settings.
Lazy loading
The tree uses lazy loading to improve performance with large asset hierarchies. Child nodes are loaded on demand when you expand parent nodes.
Filtering
Apply filters to reduce the number of displayed assets and improve tree performance: - Asset responsibility center filters - Custom table view filters - Active/inactive asset filters
Responsive design
The tree automatically adapts to different screen sizes and devices for optimal viewing experience.
Common issues
Assets not appearing in tree
- Verify the asset is marked as Active
- Check parent-child relationships are correctly configured
- Ensure proper asset responsibility center assignments
Tree performance is slow
- Apply filters to reduce the number of displayed assets
- Check if lazy loading is enabled
- Contact your administrator about performance settings
Drag and drop not working
- Verify drag and drop is enabled in your maintenance employee settings
- Ensure you're trying to move assets to valid parent assets
- Check that you have permission to modify asset relationships
