Usage
Introduction
In asset management, linear assets refer to long, linear infrastructure components that extend over a distance. These assets are typically part of utility, transportation, or communication networks and require specialized maintenance due to their continuous nature.
Some examples of linear assets include roads and highways, paved surfaces, bridges, tunnels, railway tracks, pipelines for oil, gas, water, sewage, transmission lines, canals, drainage systems, and more.
ArcGIS: Viewing the Map View of Linear Assets
Once the map integration details are set up, you can open a link to the ArcGIS map viewer from assets and functional locations pages. That is, the navigation buttons for opening ArcGIS map are visible from the assets and functional locations pages only when there is setup for ArcGIS in the page Asset Management parameters.
Note:
- If the ArcGIS Portal URL is not specified in the page Asset management parameters then button for ArcGIS is not visible. For detailed setup on ArcGIS, see the ArcGIS Integration setup in the Linear assets setup page.
- Asset page
- Go to Asset management > Assets.
- From the top menu, navigate to General > Linear asset > ArcGIS (see screenshot 01).
- Functional location page:
- Go to Asset management > Functional locations > All functional locations.
- From the top menu, navigate to Functional location > Linear asset > ArcGIS (see screenshot 02).
You will be redirected to maps displaying lines corresponding to each asset, with a start point and end point representing the linear assets.
Understanding the ArcGIS Link Components
The link consists of three key components: map, layer, and feature, which are configured as attributes.
- Feature: Represents the ID of the asset or functional location.
- Layer: Refers to the ID of the ArcGIS layer. Instead of setting this attribute individually for each asset or functional location, you can define the Layer ID at the asset type or functional location type level to streamline the process.
- Map: Corresponds to the ID of the ArcGIS map. You can configure the map within Asset Management Parameters, eliminating the need to specify the map attribute for individual assets or functional locations.
