Additional Types for Maintenance Contracts

What's New Additional Types for Administrative Charges

  • New "Additional" type option on Maintenance Contract lines
  • Period Amount field works like other Contracted Types
  • Enhanced contract release validation - requires at least one operational type
  • Smart work order assignment that excludes additional types

How It Works Setting Up Additional Types:

Search for "Additional Types" in Business Central

Create charge types with Code, Description, and Default Amount

Types are reusable across all contracts

Adding to Contracts:

Open contract → Contracted Types section

Add new line → Select Type = "Additional"

Select from defined additional types in the No. field

Description auto-fills from master data

Enter Period Amount

If auto-calculation is enabled, header Period Amount includes additional types

Example:

  • Line 1: Asset A - Period Amount: 500
  • Line 2: Additional (Admin Fee) - Period Amount: 100
  • Header Period Amount automatically shows: 600

Releasing Contracts:

  • Contract must have at least one operational type (Asset, Asset Location, Work Order Plan, etc.)
  • Additional types are allowed but not sufficient alone
  • Clear validation error prevents release if only additional types exist

How It Does NOT Work Work Order Assignment:

  • ❌ Additional types do NOT trigger work order assignment
  • ❌ Work orders are NOT matched to contracts based on additional types
  • ❌ Contracts with only Additional type lines will NOT have work orders assigned
  • ✅ Only operational types (Asset, Asset Location, Work Order Plan, Round Order Plan, Work Order Category, Work Order Group) are used for work order matching

Key Point: Additional types are billing/administrative purposes only - they never affect which work orders get assigned to the contract.

Release Restrictions:

  • ❌ Cannot release contract with only Additional type lines
  • ❌ Must have at least one operational contracted type
  • ❌ Additional types alone are insufficient for a functional contract

When Auto-Calculation Is DISABLED:

  • Additional type Period Amounts are stored but ignored in header calculation
  • Same behavior as other contracted type lines

Status Limitations:

  • ❌ Cannot add/edit additional types when contract Status is not "Open"
  • ❌ Cannot modify released or posted contracts
  • ❌ Master data changes don't retroactively update existing contract lines
